October 8 – Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert has been given a six-week ban, suspended, and a small fine by the FA over the ‘Spygate’ scandal. Eckert had pled guilty to authorising three incidents of spying and attempting to spy on opposition training sessions within 72 hours of a match kick-off.
Eckert’s defence was that he was unaware of the 72-hour exclusion rule on watching opposition training sessions – in Germany it is common practice for scouts to observe other team training sessions.
