Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has strongly defended Joshua Kimmich following the recent criticism directed at the midfielder during his time with the German national team, describing the doubts surrounding his qualities as “absolutely absurd.”

Eberl made it clear that he believes Kimmich remains one of Bayern Munich and Germany’s most important players, highlighting his leadership, mentality, and ability to set an example for those around him.

“I’ve seen that Joshua Kimmich’s qualities have been called into question. I find that absolutely absurd. He’s a leader who leads from the front. For me, Kimmich is an outstanding German international player. We should be grateful to have a player like him in our team. [Tom] Bischof is also an outstanding player too, and so is [Aleksandar] Pavlović,” Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Kimmich has often been a polarizing figure when representing Germany, with questions surrounding his performances, leadership, and role within the national team. However, Eberl clearly believes that criticism of the 31-year-old has gone too far, emphasizing the value of having a player with his experience and competitive mentality.

The Bayern Munich executive also took the opportunity to praise Bischof and Pavlović, underlining the quality of Germany’s midfield options and FC Bayern’s contribution to the national team.

With major international tournaments on the horizon, Germany will need experienced leaders alongside its emerging talents. In Eberl’s eyes, Kimmich remains an essential part of that equation.
