Jordan Henderson makes England injury admission as ex-Liverpool captain rejoins squad

Jordan Henderson suffered a fractured arm during the celebrations that followed England's win over Mexico at the World Cup

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has opened up on the "tough" days that have followed since he suffered an injury at the World Cup. Henderson suffered an arm fracture during the celebrations on the pitch after the Three Lions claimed a 3-2 win over Mexico to reach the quarter-final of the tournament.

Henderson was an unused substitute in the victory in Mexico City, but suffered an arm injury after accidentally landing awkwardly after he attempted to climb over an advertising board.

The former Liverpool star was stretchered off the pitch and went on to undergo successful surgery in Kansas City earlier this week.

Despite suffering an injury, Henderson has reunited with the England squad for the quarter-final clash against Norway in Miami - even lacing up and getting involved in the warm-up despite sporting a large cast on his arm.

The 36-year-old has spoken about the injury he suffered in Mexico City and the impact it has had on him in the days that have followed.

"It's alright, thanks. Not my finest hour I know. Main job was to go there and win, progress, that's the main thing," Henderson said in an interview with ITV.

"A tough couple of days. Soon as I came back to camp to see the lads, we've got a great medical team, the DRs and surgeons in Kansas were amazing. Grateful for that, delighted to be here today."

When asked about England’s match against Norway, Henderson added: "Same thing we showed in the last game, the resilience and character, obstacles that we overcome. We have to do the same again, tough test for us. If we're the best version of ourselves, I'm confident we'll get through.

"It is a challenge, he's one of the best in the world but they've got top top players. For us, we have to concentrate, do our job and get through to the semi."

Even though Henderson is not part of the England squad that will face Norway, the former Liverpool star will be hoping to play a key role in helping his teammates reach the next round.

Victory over Norway for the Three Lions in Miami would set up a semi-final clash against either Argentina or Switzerland.
