Liverpool latest: Transfer update on World Cup star as contact made for £38m Brazilian
Liverpool are reportedly looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new Premier League season, with the Reds said to have made contact over a potential £38m signing
Andoni Iraola's maiden summer at the Liverpool helm has been slow to progress up to this point. However, that appears ready to change as the Reds pursue a return to Premier League title contention in the forthcoming campaign.
Liverpool have already secured two significant additions following Jeremy Jacquet's completion of his pre-arranged switch to Merseyside. The £60million defender has been accompanied by the unexpected arrival of £34.5m winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
And further business remains on the agenda, with Iraola keen to put his own stamp on the squad. The ECHO has examined the latest speculation surrounding Anfield this weekend as the English giants seek to accelerate their activity in the transfer market.
Reds holding firm on Gakpo
Liverpool are reportedly "not opening the doors" to Cody Gakpo leaving Anfield this summer despite interest from Tottenham. The Reds forward has been heavily linked with a move to north London but the club have no desire to sell.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has indicated Spurs' primary target for the wide position is Manchester City's Savinho. Speculation surrounding Gakpo's future has intensified following the Netherlands' elimination from the World Cup, though he is expected to join the rest of Iraola's squad for pre-season preparations.
Speaking on his latest transfer update, Romano said on his official YouTube channel: "Guys, my understanding is the main names to take into consideration for Tottenham for the winger positions are Cody Gakpo, but at the moment Liverpool are yet to open doors to an exit, and Savinho.
"Savinho is a top target for Tottenham. These two players are considered priorities for Tottenham for the winger position.
"I'm not saying they are joining, because this depends on negotiations, but Savinho is [target] number one, two and three because Tottenham already wanted one year ago. If you remember, in my videos I always told you this.
"Then Cody Gakpo is a desire of Tottenham but at the moment Liverpool are not opening the doors to an exit, so we have to be patient."
Liverpool make contact for Joao Gomes
Liverpool may seek to take advantage of Wolves' relegation from the Premier League with an approach for midfielder Joao Gomes. And the Reds have reportedly established contact with his club to push the transfer forward.
Gomes, 25, was being linked with a switch to Atletico Madrid before Jorge Mendes, who was facilitating the deal, pulled the plug. That could open the door for Liverpool to swoop for the 10-cap Brazil international should they choose to act.
Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte has reported both Liverpool and Manchester United have approached Wolves regarding a potential deal. The duo have made enquiries about the price of a transfer, with the player understood to be valued at approximately £38m.

United are already on the brink of bolstering their midfield with the imminent arrival of Chelsea anchorman Andrey Santos. However, the club's pursuit of Atalanta's Ederson is reportedly teetering on the edge of collapse due to concerns arising from his medical, meaning they could still be on the lookout for an alternative option.
Gomes holds considerable appeal for Premier League clubs given his experience in England's top flight. The former Flamengo prospect maintained an impressive reputation at Molineux despite the club's difficulties in recent seasons.
The engine room doesn't appear to be an area in urgent need of an overhaul at Liverpool. Nevertheless, with Alexis Mac Allister being linked to Real Madrid and Curtis Jones weighing up a potential departure, that picture could alter rapidly.
