Hello and welcome to Mirror Football's transfer blog for Wednesday, July 8.

Arsenal have reportedly booked in a medical for Illan Meslier, as they look for a new back-up goalkeeper to David Raya. Kepa Arrizabalaga found himself limited to cup competitions in 2025/26 and is said to be heading for the exit door to play more consistent first-team football.

As a result, the Gunners are in hot pursuit of Meslier, who is a free agent after leaving Leeds United upon the expiry of his contract. The 26-year-old failed to make a single senior appearance for the Peacocks last season, shipping six goals in two games for the reserves.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are said to be eyeing a move for Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni. Having missed out on Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes to Manchester City and Spurs, respectively, the Red Devils are still on the hunt for midfield reinforcement.

While Ederson's arrival from Atalanta is all but guaranteed, Michael Carrick is clearly looking for a number of stars to fill the void left by Casemiro. As a result, United have started discussions over a move for Tchouameni, although a deal will not come cheaply.

It is suggested that any successful transfer will come for a minimum of £68m, showing the importance of the 26-year-old Frenchman to Los Blancos.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have made initial enquiries over the possibility of signing Gilberto Mora from Club Tijuana, following an outstanding World Cup run with Mexico. It is understood that the 17-year-old attacking midfielder has a release clause of around £18m in his current contract, which runs until 2029.

Van Dijk targeted by Serie A giants

Liverpool could be braced for an approach from AC Milan for Virgil van Dijk this summer.

Reports in Italy suggest Milan controlling owner Gerry Cardinale is a big admirer of the Dutchman, 34, who signed a two-year contract in 2025.

According to Gazzetto dello Sport, Cardinale’s desire to bring him to Milan 'is clear', and Van Dijk is open to hearing their offer.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds will entertain offers for Van Dijk, with new head coach Andoni Iraola only just starting pre-season work.

Spurs block Juve loan approach

Tottenham have reportedly blocked Juventus' attempt to sign Guglielmo Vicario on loan and will only let him depart on a permanent deal, reports in Italy suggest.

The Bianconeri have held talks with his representatives and had initially planned to sign him on a permanent deal, Tuttomercatoweb report.

However, they have explored a possible loan move, with Spurs likely to be open to letting Vicario leave.

Roberto De Zerbi is eyeing Juventus' Michele Di Gregorio as his new number one ahead of Antonin Kinsky. But a loan move appears to be a no-go, with a permanent swap possibly on the cards.

BREAKING: Tchouameni 'to sign' new Real Madrid deal

Manchester United target Aurelien Tchouameni looks set to snub a move this summer as he has agreed a new contract with Real Madrid.

Widespread reports, with Fabrice Hawkins first to release the news, claim the France international is set to extend his stay until June 2031.

That's a hammer blow for United, who were still keen on the 26-year-old despite edging closer to completing a deal for Andrey Santos.

Chelsea youngster signs new deal

Chelsea teenager Jesse Derry has penned a new long-term contract with the club until June 2032 before heading on loan to Sporting Lisbon.

The 19-year-old made his senior debut in the closing games of the season and is highly-regarded at Stamford Bridge. He heads for a temporary move to Portugal to gain first-team experience.

After signing his new deal, Derry said: "This last 12 months, I feel like a completely different player than when I first joined and that’s credit to all the coaches I’ve worked with. They've played such a big part in helping me get better.

"Just having that little snippet of playing for the first team last season, I couldn't have thought of anywhere else I'd want to be for my future. It was a no-brainer."

Man Utd's transfer budget boost

Mason Greenwood's potential move to Fenerbahce from Marseille could land Manchester United a huge windfall this summer.

That's because of a lucrative clause inserted into his deal, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Wolves teenager Mateus Mane ahead of a potential summer move.

The 18-year-old impressed in the second half of the season for the relegated Premier League side.

However, Wolves want around £35m to let their academy starlet leave after he signed a long-term contract last season.

Crystal Palace strike free agent deal

Crystal Palace have agreed terms to sign Spain international Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer, per Fabrizio Romano.

The 27-year-old, who attracted interest from Arsenal and Aston Villa, is set to sign as a free agent after leaving Celta Vigo.

Romano reports the two parties have struck a 'verbal agreement', with Mingueza now expected to complete his move after talks advanced this week.

Greenwood on the move?

Fenerbahce have lodged an official bid to for Mason Greenwood today which could see Man United benefit.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is at the 'final stages' for fee over £34.1m plus add-ons.

That could see United bank a significant fee through a sell-on clause, which was inserted into the deal when he joined Marseille in 2024.

Arsenal 'accelerate' Guimaraes move

Arsenal are set to step up their interest in Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports.

The BBC report that the Gunners are yet to hold talks with Newcastle but are preparing a £60m approach for the 28-year-old.

It comes after Guimaraes told club chiefs he is looking to leave St James' Park after four years at the club.

Arsenal are only looking to sign one midfielder and could move for Alex Scott from Bournemouth or Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi if they cannot agree a deal for Guimaraes.

Palace enter Kolo Muani race

Crystal Palace are looking to make a move for Tottenham flop Randal Kolo Muani this summer, reports in France suggest.

Kolo Muani, who scored just once for Spurs in the Premier League after joining on loan from PSG, returned to the Ligue 1 club this summer after they opted not to make his loan move a permanent one.

Juventus have stalled over signing the 27-year-old after PSG demanded £35 million to sell him and French outlet Foot Mercato claim Palace are ready to move for the forward.
